Why is Yncréa Méditerranée interested in this field?
For decades, the trend has been to increase the computing power of chips, especially chips with generic applications (CPU, GPU, System On Chip, etc.) and thus to specialize the applications realized with these chips through specific software components.
Mastering the software part of a project is an imperative both for ISEN Yncréa Méditerranée, but also for the engineers trained by the school. This is why the members of the team have at heart both to be centered on the fundamentals, such as the algorithmic and system architecture bases (linked to the hardware), but also to be aware of the technologies which are on the rise, in order to be able to answer at best to the industrial demands as well as to the training needs.
What does this research involve?
These activities can be part of our own project processes, such as industrial achievements (system development, development of computing codes, etc.) or academic achievements (realization of computer science oriented MOOCs, illustration of concrete cases for students, etc.).
How is R&D carried out?
The Software Development team mixes observation and realization in its daily work, both in the research, industrial and academic fields.
On the "observation" side, team members are constantly on the lookout for new technologies in areas close to their own (databases, operating system technologies, Machine Learning, high-performance computing, educational innovation, etc.), in order to keep abreast of developments, but also to constantly challenge themselves.
This constant questioning of the tools we use is both necessary and beneficial, to provide industry with relevant solutions, to show students the paths that are possible and conceivable in the short, medium and long term, but also to constantly improve our range of skills.
The direct consequences of this work can be seen in the themes of the courses offered to students as well as in the feasibility studies of industrial projects, but also in a more latent way in the organization of ISEN Yncréa Méditerranée, in the form of think tanks (on digital technology, artificial intelligence, digital pedagogy, etc.).
On the "realization" side, there are numerous applications, such as in recent years :
- development and optimization of high-performance computing codes on dedicated servers or embedded peripherals;
- development of software components incorporated into mainly electronic systems (embedded-type subsystems);
- development of proprietary applications combining databases and computing codes, and communicating with specific hardware peripherals;
- deployment of highly available applications in cloud mode;
- development of websites (front end + back end);
- supply of educational portals;
- creation of computer-oriented MOOCs.
