Gender equality in the workplace index

Every year, French companies with over fifty employees are required to produce and communicate their "Gender Equality Index".

Law no. 2018-771 of September 5, 2018 on the freedom to choose one's professional future introduced new provisions with the sole aim of putting an end to unexplained pay gaps, between women and men.

In this context, "French companies with over fifty employees are required to produce and publish their annual Gender Equality Index".

50-50

For companies with 50 to 250 employees, this index comprises four indicators calculated on a total of 100 points. It measures various aspects of professional equality:

  • pay differentials,
  • differences in individual salary increase rates,
  • percentage of employees receiving a raise in the year they return from maternity leave,
  • number of women in the company's ten highest-paid positions.

Companies have 3 years to comply if their overall score is below 75 points.
