We do not seek to achieve performance for performance's sake, but we respond to uses.
Core business
Thibaut DELERUYELLE has been a research professor at YNCREA Méditerranée since September 2010. Since then, he is responsible for the activities of the contactless laboratory. The laboratory focuses on the study and integration of communicating devices covering many IoT applications (from kHz to ten GHz). This expertise ranges from antenna modeling and prototyping, embedded system integration to application layers. He is co-leader of a research team named RFID-OC at the IM2NP laboratory.
It hosts in its laboratory a technological platform for pre-certification of HF RFID contactless devices from the CIMPACA MicroPackS platform. It is also in charge of an IoT oriented engineering school training.
Prospective
The future of contactless is difficult to address. We tried to make protocols much faster, with much longer ranges. But this model is now changing. LoRa or Sigfox, for example, offer much lower data rates but meet other criteria such as a guarantee of service, interconnection and also much lower consumption. And we are talking about more conscious use. We are trying to optimize the use of electronic objects to the strict minimum for energy reasons. Uses have changed, and so has the way we approach science. Today the performance criterion is evolving, we estimate the consumption of devices and we make sure they last as long as possible. For Thibaut, programmed obsolescence is a problem that is bound to disappear because users need longer lifetimes and greater reliability.
360°
Initially, Thibaut focused on radio frequencies. He has broadened his field of research to include RFID and contactless technologies: electronic passports, contactless payment, connected objects, communication protocols (Bluetooth, WiFi, LoRa, Sigfox). For the future, the challenge is 5G, for which we're seeing the emergence of connected object communication. We're talking about billions of interconnected objects. Thibaut's role is to know how to fit in and work with these new technologies. Through his research, which is aimed at supporting industrial partners, but also through his passion for disseminating knowledge, Thibault prepares students to be operational and in tune with the job market.
